Before starting his company, Michael was in a traditional 9-to-5, grinding his way through life for corporate powerhouses. He wanted more—needed more. So, he and his family decided to walk on faith, and Back Down South was born.

Back Down South is a clothing brand that offers shirts, caps, and other accessories that are made here in the US.

When Michael says “USA Made,” he means it. He spent years trying to manufacture his shirts on US soil and was finally able to do so in 2016 when he discovered South Carolina cotton, the fiber that make his shirts both durable and velvety-soft to the touch, adding value to his product.

Michael is a true believer in small businesses. “Mom and Pop” shops are the heart of the South, and it takes a certain kind of person with a certain kind of grit to step out of their comfort zone and take a chance—to be the hunter.”

Each item also pays homage to his hero, Chief, the lovable chocolate lab that several of Back Down South’s merchandise features. ! While many see dogs as just pets or hunting partners, for Michael, Chief is a part of the family and the obvious choice as face of the company.

As he waits for the ducks to migrate “Back Down South,” you can find Michael enjoying his family and supporting local animal shelters, with no hurry to get too big for his shoes—after all, he started his company with no business experience and takes every day as a learning experience, so no rush.
